Graphic organizers for writing can be very helpful for students with dyslexia. Many students need support with prewriting activities. This includes planning and organizing their ideas for writing. Graphic organizers make the writing process more structured, visual, and manageable. They can turn the writing task into a clear visual map, making it easier to follow. In their study, Boon, Barbetta & Paal (2018) found that graphic organizers were very effective in improving the narrative and expository essay skills of students with learning disabilities. Types of graphic organizers can include mind maps, story maps, flow-charts, Venn diagrams, KWL charts, and many more. There are many websites with free graphic organizers for students and teachers.
